British Standard 7543:2015 states that fasteners should not be considered as either 'replaceable' or 'maintainable', so they should be selected on the basis that the fastener specification will be appropriate, based on the intended lifespan of the building system or substrate in which they are being used.
Should unforeseen circumstances lead to building owners deciding to replace specific components rather than the entire roof system, we would advise using a larger diameter fixing than the originally installed fastener - e.g., a 5.5mm diameter fastener replaced with a 6.3mm diameter fastener. This would ensure sufficient thread engagement helping to prevent unwinding or decreased performance.
