Why is a depth setting sleeve necessary? When installing metal roofing & cladding, fasteners with bonded EPDM washers are used to create a weatherproof seal around the fastener. An installation tool with a depth setting sleeve should be used to ensure the washer is compressed to the correct depth.
How does this depth setting sleeve work?It works by disengaging the clutch on the screwgun, automatically stopping the drill from driving the fastener further when the correct depth is reached.
Why does the washer need to be set correctly? An under-tightened washer will not provide a weathertight seal against the cladding sheet. Also, if the washer is over-tightened, it could dimple the panel or compromise the waterproofing.
How can I set it to the correct depth? It's important to set the nose cone to the correct depth at the start of each job. The best way to do this is to estimate the cone setting, then drill several fasteners, each time increasing or decreasing the setting slightly until you have achieved the correct depth.
Will this fit on to any screwgun? The DSSH29 is designed for use with Makita FS2500 & DFS251Z screwdrivers.
Are they compatible with any drive socket? Our depth setting sleeve will work with standard 1/4 Hex 65mm drive sockets. We recommend using the Colourdrive range.
Will these work for any Fixfast product? This depth setting tool is designed to work for any Drillfast or Matchfast product that is supplied with a bonded washer.
There has been a lot of guidance from the leading industry bodies as to the correct installation of self-drilling fasteners and the need for depth setting sleeves. Most panel manufacturers also recommend their use to ensure correct installation. See the links below for more information.
